Two new great AndroidZoom features!

Attending to our users improving aims, we have been developed two interesting new features for AndroidZoom. Take a glance at it:

Tabs and filters

Until now, when one user clicked on one of the tabs (All, Free, Paid, On Sale) it automatically appeared sort by newest and, when that user chose another sorting criteria (Popularity, for instance), it turned into the All tab with no reason. Now, if you click in the tab Free, for example, and then you sort by Rating it will show, as it is meant to be, the best rated free apps. The best point is that sorting criteria will remain even if you choose another category (Arcade & Action Games, Business apps, Entertainment… whichever you click on). It improves greatly your search efficiency, don’t you think so?

On Sale Tab → Sort by Price

We have presented you in a previous post the new On Sale tab which is the sales section of AndroidZoom. There you may find those applications which have brought its price down or even those which have turned into free. In order to make easier the discovering of the best discount apps, we have added Price in the sorting criteria. So since now, if you click on the On Sale tab and then you sort your search by Price you will get a list which first will show those apps which have turned into free followed by those with highest discount.

We are glad to present you these new features and we really hope you will find it useful

Happy new AndroidZoom site discovery!

New AndroidZoom, all the new features.

Besides the Price Drop, we have improved some of the features of AndroidZoom in the latest version released. Take a glance at it!

Icon view

The next new feature of the latest version of AndroidZoom.com that we are going to present is the Icon View. Now you can choose between the classic List view of the apps of each category and the Icon view that will allow you to see at a glance the apps in an easier way, without scrolling down the bar. As well as in the classic view, you may sort the apps by Newest, Popularity and Rating. Likewise, the Icon View it is available for all the categories and section of the site. The difference is, basically, that you will see just the icon and the name of the app. The strength of this new feature is that it makes your app discovering faster and easier. If you are interested in one of the app of the list, you just need to click on it to get to the app’s page. There you  will have the option to check it deeply and to download it.

We are pretty sure that as well as money (by the new Price Drop tab), AndroidZoom.com users want to save some time in their app discovering. For that reason, we have launched the new Icon View. We really hope it will be a fruitful tool and you will make the most of it.

My menu

Have you tried to sign in in the latest version of AndroidZoom.com in the last few days? As well as other new features which we are presenting in this post, the user’s account menu has been improved in order to make easier the way the users manage their app’s lists and their reports. Unlike the previous My menu options located in the top of the categories frame, we have put the users account options together in a drop-down list in the new My menu. One of the strengths of the new featured My Menu is that the  AndroidZoom users do not need to create a new account to get access because we have integrated the Google’s login system.

Regular users will have access to their customized lists of apps by “My lists” and will be able to send reports by “My issues sent”. Those users who are also developers may use the added value services from AndroidZoom developer’s account: receive feedback from the users of your apps and add additional relevant information to your app’s profile.

The main goal of the new featured My Menu is to improve the ease of navigation and the management of the users accounts.

Easy downloading

One of the most important sections of AndroidZoom.com for users is the app sheet which contains all the information about the application: reviews, downloading means (QR, links to the Android market, direct download of .apk), screenshots and videos, comments, permissions and changelog (updates). Since it is the primary source of information for AndroidZoom’s users, we have tried to improve its design and its accessibility. And this is the result:

The new design of the tab-bar on the top allows us to get to the different sections easily. All the content of the app’s sheet is accessible from this tabs. Useful, easy and fast!

Under the tab-bar you will find how many people likes that app in Facebook which is an indicator of its popularity and success (but you have to take in account that those people click on “Like” from Androidzoom’s app sheet).

Below you may check the main appdata: rating, price, version, publisher, file size, amount of downloads, package. The buttons on the right side: QR Code (the new button that links app sheet in the Android market by a QR code), Add to list (to add the app to your list of favorites app in your AndroidZoom’s account), and, finally, the iFrame to embed the widget of the app in your site.

If you click on “Download” you may choose the option you prefer to download the application: QR Code, direct download link in your e-mail or manually install from the Android Market.

The review, under the download button, will bring you the information about what the app is, how it works, developer info, versions compatible, pros and cons and rating.

Finally, at the bottom you may check the recent changelog, what list the app has been included in and the available screenshots of the app.

We really hope you like the new design and the new features we have included in the latest version of AndroidZoom.com. Feel free to check it out and give us some feedback if you consider that there are things that could be improved! But, above all, have a… Happy new AndroidZoom site discovery!

New AndroidZoom feature: Price drop.

We know that the price is one of the issues that really matters to Android users, who are always looking for saving some money in their app downloads. Getting the best Android applications at the lowest price it is not as easy as it seems: you need constant updated information. AndroidZoom’s team has developed a tool to help you out in that point: the new Price Drop tab. Next to the “All”, “Free” and “Paid” tabs you may find the new “Price Drop” tab which is the sales section of AndroidZoom. There you may find those applications which have brought its price down or even those which have turned into free.

By clicking in the Price Drop tab you will get into the list of app sales. As well as the others filter tabs, you may sort the apps list by Newest, Popularity and Rating. You will also be able to choose between the list view and the icon view (another of the new features of the latest version of AndroidZoom.com). Once you have chosen the filter options which you prefer, you may scroll the bar down to seek those apps you are interested in. Each application label includes the name, the icon, the developer, the description, a link to a similar app, the price, the rating and then, under the rating, the new price drop label. It will be green if the app’s prices have been brought down (with the percentage off on it) or red if the app has turned into free (100% off).

We are really glad to present you this new feature and we hope it will be a useful tool to improve your experience as Android user. Take a glance at it now and again and do not miss the best app offers.

Tower Raiders 2 BETA review

Here’s a game that’s in beta phase (with everything that that implies). It’s a typical “tower defense” game, where the aim is to build towers to stop the enemies from reaching the end of the map.

The main premise is simple: you have to place defense equipment in enemy paths to stop them crossing. To stop the raiders you’re given a supply of resources that increase with every enemy you kill, allowing you to add more and more towers and weapons.

You can also win reward points, so that should please the more competitive player among us. ;-)

Since it’s a beta version, there are still only a few levels but constant improvements are being made so if you’re a tower defense game fan, watch this space.

It’s free and available for Android 2.1 and above. Remember that it’s a beta version so you can expect errors, but it’s definitely worth a try.

Here’s a video so you can see it in action:

Pig Rush game review

This is another fun game where you control “Jumpy the Pig” in his attempts to escape from the farm to avoid being turned into bacon.

It’s a simple endurance platformer where you have to jump from one platform to the other without falling. The longer you last the better.

The further you get, the harder the game becomes. The platforms get smaller and there are bigger gaps and even fires to avoid.

There are a few power-ups too such as the hovering fire hat that will protect Jumpy from the flames ;-)

The simplicity of this game (available for Android 2.1 and above) makes it a winner- and it’s completely free of charge!

Unity for Android, iOS – iPhone games so close to the Android devices

Apps developers are taking some steps to reduce the gap between iOs and Android in order to get into both markets and to offer their products and services to a wider user’s range. Actually, those steps are coming mainly from Android apps developers who are willing to make easier the way they transfer iOs applications to Android. In that sense, it seems that Unity software which we are about to present in this review, has taken a great step in the struggle between Mac and Google platforms.

Until now, transferring games from iOs to Android has been a complex and tedious task. Those great games that were coming up for iPhone were taking months to be available for Android, and that was a burden we have been to carry with. Precisely because that is one of the keystones of a complete user experience, Unity Technologies has been working on it, and now presents Unity for Android, an specific software to transfer games from iPhone to Android. Actually, according to what their developers say, sometimes it will consist just in changing the platform within the program and click the “compilation” button.

More than 50 developers have already joined this project and have transferred their games thanks to this software. Moreover, they have launched a cheaper version that costs 400$ instead of the previous 1500$. Companies as Coca-Cola, Disney, Lego, Electronic Arts, Microsoft and NASA have taken part of the project of this promising startup. Games like Stupid Zombies, Drift Mania Championship or Battle Bears have been transferred from iOs to Android by using Unity’s software and it only took maximum two weeks. It is a really good transfer time and it will not be a hitch anymore for all those developers who are seeking to increase their sales by getting in the platform of Google. Two great exemples of games that have been brought to Android by this software are Rocket Bunny and the amazing Samurai II: Vengance. Besides, it is not only a tool to transfer games from one OS to another but a programming tool by itself, with quite good performance.

It seems that we will start to witness companies launching games in the Apple Store and just two weeks later those games landing in Android Market. Will it be possible to transfer all the games from one to the other OS? At least, that is a promising issue.

Check out the following sample video developed with Unity Software:

Farm Story game review

With the weekend just around the corner, what better idea than to take a look at one game to while away all that free time with.

This is a fun, little game where the aim is to plant and grow your own crops, with plenty of cultivation options and decorations to help you along the way.

It’s similar to FarmVille (the popular game by Zynga on Facebook) but pocket-sized for our Androids.

You can add neighbors and visit them to earn extra points and money.

It’s an online game so you need to be connected to your data network or a wifi connection to access it.

I have to admit that Farm Story is really entertaining and if you were a Farmville fan then this is will be right up your street. It’s completely free and gets updated regularly with new objects and crops, all at no extra cost.

Take a look to this review from the whatsgoodblog guys:

iDisplay turns your Android device into a secondary display

From time to time appears a new application concept which is destined to evolve the way we work. That is iDisplay case, a very-useful app developed a few months ago (spring 2010) for Mac, iPhone and iPad users, that spreads now to the Android world. For just 4,99$ iDisplay turns your tablets and smartphones into an additional screen for your PC or Mac. In that way, iDisplay is specifically designed to increase user’s productivity by maximizing the viewable area on your main monitor. Ideal for multi-taskers and those who are looking for increasing their efficiency by displaying programs for which more view space is needed. iDisplay includes four mains features:

•  Extend the display – spread the desktop over both displays and drag items between the two screens.
•  Duplicate displays – view the same desktop on both the monitor and the Android device.
•   100% Android Compatible – works with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Nexus One, or any other Android tablet or smartphone on the market.
•   Works in portrait or landscape device orientations.

Despite the bugs and troubles the application had in its first versions for Mac (check out this Engadget.com review)  it seems that the developers have solved all its execution problems, and right now, iDisplay bursts into Android market as a complete and revolutionary app that turns our Android tablets and cellphones into a 2nd monitor.

If you have an Android OS 2.1 or later (it does not work with older versions) and you are up to try this new experience remember that you will have to download the free desktop service onto your computer (PC or Mac), which is available here
